What is an ADU?

ADU stands for Accessory Dwelling Unit.

An accessory dwelling unit is a small residential living space located on the same lot as another home. ADUs  may play a significant role in relieving our housing crisis. The ADU law allows property owners to build an ADU by-right.  ADUs can be inside an existing home, like converting a basement into an apartment, attached to a primary residence as an addition, or completely detached, like a cottage or a converted garage.   An ADU typically includes its own entrance, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area, allowing residents to live separately from the main household.  They are often used for multi-generational living, rental income properties or just additional private space.  Being smaller in size they are more affordable and easier to integrate into existing neighborhoods.

Our catalog of ADU designs offers a variety of sizes and styles, with options to suit every need—from simple slab layouts to on-grade garage units with living space above. We also provide custom designs to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.
